Coverage of day one of the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, held at the All England Club, featuring men's and ladies' first-round singles matches. Carlos Alcaraz began the defence of his title last year on Centre Court with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Fabio Fognini. Over on Court No. 1, top women's seed Aryna Sabalenka claimed a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Carson Branstine, before João Fonseca also prevailed in straight sets against British hope Jacob Fearnley. However, there was success for a home favourite elsewhere, with Sonay Kartal triumphing 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 against 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko
