After a 10-day silence, Finch and Reese are relieved when the Machine produces the social security number of Ernest Thornhill, the mysterious millionaire CEO of a data-entry company who has lately been purchasing payphone businesses. Digging deeper into Thornhill's activities, Finch discovers his number was provided to alert them to the fact the Machine itself is in extreme danger and there is less than 24 hours to go before the Stanton virus closes it down
