Earth's Greatest Spectacles
New England
Season 1 Episode 1 of 3
The north-eastern region of the United States, known as New England, is the stage for one of the most incredible colour changes on the planet when the vivid greens of summer give way to the golds and reds of autumn. This film reveals how this vibrant fiesta is created by the battles between the trees and the forests inhabitants. Moose, chipmunks, rattlesnakes and a bizarre mixture of caterpillars all play a crucial role; but surprisingly the forest itself was made to be so colourful, thanks to a combination of hard work by beavers, ants and humans. Narrated by Domhnall Gleeson
Earth's Greatest Spectacles airs on BBC Two Northern Ireland at 4:15 PM, Monday 26 January. (Subtitles, repeat, audio description.)
