The women's 800m also gets under way and is one of the most eagerly anticipated events this time around, with Team GB's reigning champion Keely Hodgkinson expected to face stiff competition from the likes of Femke Broeders-Bol and Audrey Werro. The women's 400m hurdles semi-finals also take place, with reigning champion Bol not defending her title, leaving Emma Zapletalova as the pre-event favourite.
