Luke Humphries continued his ultimately successful defence of the title with a 10-6 victory over Damon Heta at this stage last year. There was also a 10-3 victory for Luke Littler against Danny Noppert, and Connor Scutt prevailed by the same scoreline against 2018 champion Daryl Gurney.
