Attenborough and the Giant Elephant
Attenborough and the Giant Elephant
Naturalist David Attenborough investigates the life of Jumbo, a famous Victorian elephant, supposedly the largest that ever lived. Jumbo arrived at London Zoo in 1865 and was popular with the royal family, but was dangerously unhappy in captivity. In later life, he would be sold to PT Barnum's circus, becoming a celebrity before dying under mysterious circumstances. Attenborough examines Jumbo's remains and considers the lives of elephants in the wild to learn more about the animal's difficult life
Attenborough and the Giant Elephant airs on Sky One HD at 7:45 PM, Monday 25 May. (Subtitles, repeat, audio description.)
