The seasonal account of the city ends in winter, when despite the challenges of the cold, wet weather, there is a lot going on in the wilder parts of the city. In Colin Glen, Alannah and Paul search the river for fossils washed down from the hills by the rainfall, while glass artist Dagmara shows her garden, which she has turned into a personal nature reserve. Up on Black Mountain Aaron organises a group of schoolchildren to plant 100 trees - and his conservation work does not go unrecognised
