Discovering the Music of Antiquity

The discovery of an ancient music score deep within the storerooms of the Louvre leads musical historians on a mission to realise its potential, sung through a modern arrangement. But to hear the piece as the Greeks did 2,400 years ago, it has to be played on period instruments. This documentary follows the journey from the Greek cities of Anatolia to the Ptolemies' Egypt, from the mythical site of Delphi to discoveries made in Pompeii, where archaeological excavations have unearthed instrument remains

Discovering the Music of Antiquity airs on BBC Four HD at 1:35 AM, Monday 25 August. (Subtitles.)
