The crime drama returns after a summer break. The body of a half-naked woman is found covered in caramel sauce and hanging by bondage cuffs from playground equipment in a public park. Castle and Beckett discover that the victim was doing research on the sociology of sexual bondage and domination for her PhD and the duo enter the world of New York's fetish clubs to investigate further, leading to meeting with dominatrix Lady Irena.
