Beckett and her team investigate when the star of a college swimming team is found dead in a pool, with the victim's ex-girlfriend, his coach and an Olympic champion all coming under suspicion. Castle soon regrets bringing along his protege Alex Conrad when Beckett takes a shine to him, so he invites him to a poker night where authors Michael Connelly and Dennis Lehane (appearing as themselves) pick apart the younger man's theories about the case.
