After conducting for 65 years, Bernard Haitink retired at the age of 90 in September 2019. The musicians he has worked with are puzzled by the secrets of his technique. He himself says his job is to embrace the orchestra without suffocating. Here, documentary-maker John Bridcut follows the Dutch maestro in his final year of music-making, watching him at work and talking to those who have worked alongside him throughout his long career
