It's 1881 and Old College, Oxford, plays host to three very different young academics. Abercrombie Smith is a model of Victorian manhood, Monkhouse Lee is a delicate and unworldly student from Siam, while the strange and exotic Edward Bellingham's arcane research into Ancient Egypt is the talk of the campus.
