Coverage of day two of the fourth Major of the year, which takes place at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, Merseyside. American Scottie Scheffler took the lead at this stage last year at Portrush on 10-under, with England's 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick one stroke behind. At the other end of the leaderboard, notable players to miss the cut included recent winners of this title Collin Morikawa and Cameron Smith, and five-time Major-champion Brooks Koepka. None of the nine amateurs in the field made the cut, which meant the Silver Medal would not be awarded for the first time since 2019
