An ex-con is tortured to death in his car and Castle and Beckett discover that a bank had reported a break-in the day before the body was found, but all that was taken was one of the bank's safety-deposit boxes. Esposito believes the owner of the stolen property is connected to the man responsible for the death of his former partner Ike Thornton. Detective Tom Denning is assigned to help in the investigation - and Beckett seems instantly attracted to him.
