Stage four of Simon's journey takes him across the areas of India rarely visited by tourists, including the unique desert environment of 'Little Rahn', home to the threatened wild ass, and Gandhi's home city of Ahmedabad, where he sees evidence of ethnic tensions between Hindus and Muslims. In Bhopal, he finds a city still contaminated by chemicals 25 years after an infamous industrial accident, while in the city of Kolkata he ponders the congestion that continues to spiral out of control
