Just after midnight on a residential street in Alum Rock, Birmingham, a red Mercedes is boxed in by two cars and six men armed with machetes swarm the vehicle. Two passengers escape with serious injuries, but the driver is dragged out, beaten and bundled into the boot of a black Volkswagen Passat. West Midlands Police's Major Crime Team 1, led by DI Francis Nock, must reconstruct the attack from the evidence left behind, and the case darkens when footage shows the kidnappers forcing their bloodied captive into a nearby property while searching for something hidden there
