The Doctor and Clara arrive in the near future on a run-down space shuttle heading for the moon, with one of Clara's pupils along for the ride. Crash-landing on the surface, they are confronted with a mining base full of corpses, vicious, spider-like creatures waiting in the dark, and a terrible decision for the human race that leaves Clara wondering if she knows the Doctor at all
