Grand Tours of the Scottish Islands
Far from the Madding Crowd
Season 2 Episode 2 of 6
Paul Murton explores the Isle of Mull and its satellite islands to discover why they have become boltholes from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. He begins on the tidal island of Erraid, which inspired famous Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, then hops over to Ulva, the final resting place of Lachlan MacQuarrie, one of the first governors of New South Wales. He then explores Mull itself, being given a whistlestop tour of the island by rally driver Louise Thomas, then travels to the mysterious little island of Inch Kenneth, where he hears the story of Nazi sympathizer Unity Mitford. He ends his tour at the remote Treshnish Islands, where he experiences a spot of 'puffin therapy'
Grand Tours of the Scottish Islands airs on TG4 HD at 3:15 PM, Wednesday 18 June. (Subtitles, new.)
