Part one of two. Wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan travels to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he realises a lifelong dream by spending time with Grauer's gorillas, the largest primates on earth. He meets the fearsome alpha male Chimanuka and two babies, one a lonely orphan and as Gordon gains the trust of these mysterious, seldom seen animals, he discovers their incredible compassion and gets caught up in a battle between giant rival silverbacks for control of the family
