The bluetongue virus has kept the zoo from bringing in genetically diverse breeding males for its ruminant programmes, but now that it has been detected in Ireland, a new male scimitar-horned oryx has arrived after quarantine in Zurich. At the Kaziranga Forest Trail, the Asian elephant herd enjoys a mud-and-water wash before the cows are trained to offer a leg for blood sampling
