Dan Snow tells the story of the boats that played their part in lifting thousands of Allied troops off the beaches of Dunkirk in the week straddling late May and early June, 1940. Meeting some of the owners, he finds out what happened to the 700-strong flotilla of trawlers, pleasure craft and lifeboats and follows preparations to mark the 70th anniversary of the event as 50 of the surviving vessels return to France
