The Canadian Open. Coverage from day three of the ATP 1000 event in Montreal and the WTA 1000 event in Toronto, both of which are hard-court tournaments. The second round sees the top eight seeded players get their campaigns unversed way in both the men's and women's events. Alexei Popyrin entered last year's competition as the reigning champion but was just the 18th-ranked player in the men's draw, but he did successfully navigate his way into the second round with a 7-6 6-3 win over Canadian qualifier Nicolas Arseneault. The reigning women's champion 12 months ago was American Jessica Pegula, and she recorded a 7-5 6-4 win over Maria Sakkari, but there was disappointment for Canada's Eugenie Bouchard, who entered as a wild card player and retired after losing in three sets to Belinda Bencic
