New Zealand v Belgium

New Zealand v Belgium (Kick-off 4.00am). Group G reaches a climax at BC Place Vancouver in Canada, with this first-ever meeting between the nations. It's perhaps not surprising that this is a first encounter, as the All Whites have only reached the World Cup finals on two previous occasions, the first of which was a memorable campaign back in 1982, when they lost all three matches but still managed to play a part in Scotland being eliminated at the first hurdle once again. Belgium are unlikely to have as much attention focused on them this time than in recent years, when they were often tipped for success, but that may remove some of the pressure that has weighed so heavily on their shoulders. Both of these sides need a victory here to have any chance of progressing to the knock-out stages, with the top two in the group facing each other in the other group match taking place tonight. New Zealand find themselves bottom of Group G with one point, while Belgium are third after two successive draws
