Paloma Faith and Sam Ryder are set to put their expertise to use and help mentor the nation’s “hidden” singers in a brand new show called Your Song.

Hosted by Alison Hammond, the Channel 4 series will see amateur singers take to the mic and perform a song that holds a very special meaning to them.

The song can be anything from a romantic ballad to an upbeat anthem that got them through a tough time in their life. But, the rule is, it must be of real significance.

Alison will be on hand to hear the story behind the music, while pop stars Paloma and Sam will be upfront with their heartfelt reactions. Here’s what we know so far about Your Song on Channel 4, including start date, the mentors and where it is filmed.

Your Song on Channel 4: How does it work?

If you’re a fan of The Piano, you’re bound to enjoy Your Song. The show is made by the same production company, Love Productions, and gives off very similar vibes.

Each episode will see members of the public take to the stage and belt out a song that really means something to them. They will tell host Alison Hammond the story behind the tune they’ve picked and put their heart and soul into the performance.

Similar to ITV‘s The Voice, the performances will be ‘blind’. This is in the sense that Paloma Faith and Sam Ryder will be hidden away from view. Once finished, the pair will emerge to share their thoughts.

Channel 4 says: “Your Song will celebrate the nation’s hidden voices by giving non-professional singers the chance to perform a song that holds deep personal meaning to them.

“Hidden from the singers during their performances, Paloma and Sam will emerge to offer their expertise and heartfelt reactions. Alongside the mentors, host Alison Hammond will bring her trademark compassion, humour, and unique ability to connect with our singers – encouraging them to open up and tell their story.”

The mentors: Paloma Faith

Paloma Faith and Sam Ryder will act as the mentors on Your Song – and it’s likely viewers will already recognise both of them.

Arguably one of Britain’s most quirkiest musicians, Paloma found fame with her debut album, Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?, in 2009. Her biggest hits include Stone Cold Sober, If Loving You Was Easy, Loyal and If This is Goodbye.

Paloma also has talent show judging experience, as she was previously a coach on ITV’s The Voice UK. Paloma has also appeared on The Great Celebrity Bake Off (also produced by Love Productions). This autumn, she is taking part in Celebrity Traitors on the BBC.

Speaking about her new role on Your Song, Paloma says: “The most inspiring and wonderful thing for me in music are the personal stories of individual people. I am delighted to take part in your song so I can be closer to that inspiration.”

Sam Ryder

Sam became a household name thanks to the Eurovision Song Contest. He represented the UK with his song Spaceman in 2022 and came second, behind winners Ukraine. Prior to that, Sam had made a name for himself by posting music covers on TikTok during lockdown.

In 2023, Sam was nominated for Best New Artist at the Brit Awards and has since received an Emmy nomination for his song Fought & Lost. His track, You’re Christmas to Me, also peaked at No 2 in the UK charts in 2023.

Sam said of his new job on Your Song: “I’m so stoked to be a mentor on Your Song! The show is all about celebrating grass roots talent across the country, and hearing their stories through music, which I can’t wait to encourage and uplift. I can’t wait to get out on the road and meet everyone!”

Your Song on Channel 4: The presenter

Alison Hammond will be presenting Your Song. Alison is now a pro at TV hosting having found fame on Big Brother in 2002.

She currently co-hosts The Great British Bake Off with Matt Lucus and is a regular presenter on ITV’s This Morning. She has also fronted Alison Hammond: For the Love of Dogs since last year. Alison took over the job from the late Paul O’Grady.

This year, Alison has hosted Alison Hammond’s Florida Unpacked and Alison Hammond’s Big Weekend. When it comes to singing shows, she has experience, too. In 2021, Alison was on the judging panel of the BBC show, I Can See Your Voice.

Where is it filmed?

Similar to The Piano, Your Song will be filmed across several locations around the UK. Cities include London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Edinburgh.

Each singer will perform on a pop-up stage and a full live band will provide the accompanying backing music. It’s not yet known whether there will be an audience of passers-by to stand and watch like on The Piano. We have a feeling there will be!

When does Your Song start?

Channel 4 is yet to announce the start date for Your Song. It’s unlikely it will air this side of Christmas, so expect to see it on your screens in 2026. The number of episodes is also being kept tightly under wraps for now, too.

It sounds a good one though – and possibly a show where you’ll need a box of tissues to hand!
