Lie with Me on Channel 5: 'Compelling' thriller starring Charlie Brooks as a gaslit wife will have you 'hooked'
It first aired in 2021
Channel 5 are once again helping to alleviate the long nights of sport by offering us the chance to watch the “compelling” thriller Lie with Me.
The series first aired in 2021, before making its way to Paramount+. But now it’s returning to Channel 5 to be rewatched by some or binged for the first time by others. Thank for Channel 5 for your services to entertainment!
The series stars former EastEnders star Charlie Brooks as Anna, a British woman who moves to Australia with her husband after infidelity threatened their marriage.
But this is a Channel 5 thriller we’re talking about, so it’s not the fresh start she was hoping for… Here’s everything you need to know, including plot, cast, start date, and location.

What is Channel 5 thriller Lie with Me about?
Lie with Me – or With Intent as it was called in the US – is a marital thriller with a twist. We meet Anna, who seeks a fresh start for her marriage in Australia with her husband Jake and their two small children. This follows his infidelity back in the UK, which has understandably left its scars on Anna.
With Anna resuming her career, they hire a young live-in nanny to help. But there’s more to her than meets the eye… Local girl Becky is anything but the innocent stranger she pretends to be. And the decision to invite her into their home has deadly consequences…
The trailer shows Jake’s hopeful optimism at the move Down Under. He tells Anna: “We came here to make a new start. New country, new life. Put all that bad stuff behind us.” But, of course, things do not turn out as planned.
Executive producer Jason Herbison said: “I want the audience to be entertained. But also think about some of the issues presented. Many people can relate to being in a relationship that isn’t healthy for them and finding the way out isn’t always easy.
“Lie with Me takes the dilemma to extremes. I’d never want anyone in the audience to go that far, but there might be some lessons to be learned from it. Situations aren’t always as they seem and it’s always good to keep your eyes open in a relationship.”
The series first aired in 2021.
How many episodes is it?
There are four episodes in the series.
Neighbours showrunner Jason Herbison created and executive produced the show. He was the man behind the recent C5 thrillers The Imposter, and Riptide. Jason also wrote the Danny Dyer thriller Heat, which aired in 2023.
When’s the start date?
Lie with Me will return to Channel 5 on Monday, July 06, 2026 at 9pm. It will air consecutive days that week, with the finale airing on Thursday, July 09, 2026.
It is also available to watch on Prime Video, at a cost.

Lie with Me reviews
The Guardian’s Lucy Mangan called the four-parter a “dud” and an “improbably silly drama”.
However, inews.co.uk said: “This thriller is average at best – so why am I hooked?” The review also thanks “a deliciously unexpected and much needed twist”.
The Arts Desk added: “A joint production between Channel 5 and Australia’s Network 10, the four-part mystery Lie With Me didn’t do itself many favours by kicking off with its least persuasive episode.
“However, if you stuck with it, hidden layers began to reveal themselves, and the final instalment delivered a satisfyingly malevolent twist.”
