Slater family tree: Who's who in EastEnders' most colourful clan

How much do you know about the Slater family?
Carena Crawford

The Slater family are never far away from the drama in EastEnders. From the moment the Slater sisters arrived in Walford, they’ve been causing trouble, heartache, drama and a few laughs!

And of course without the Slaters we’d never have had that iconic EastEnders “you ain’t my mother!” moment between Kat and Zoe.

But there are a lot of Slater women to keep track of, and Freddie calls them all Nan which doesn’t help, and now there’s baby Charli, too… Anyway, here’s our helpful guide to the Slater family tree.

The Slater family in EastEnders: Charlie Slater

Sweet-natured cabbie Charlie Slater arrived in Albert Square in 2000 with four of his five daughters – though of course it was later revealed that Zoe was really his granddaughter.

Charlie had been married to a woman named Viv – mum to the sisters – and her mum, Mo Harris, lived with the family, too.

Of the four sisters – Lynne, Mo, Belinda and Kat – only Mo and Kat have surviving children. Big sister Lynne lost a baby when a fairground ride collapsed in Albert Square and she was buried under the rubble.

Harry Slater

Charlie’s evil brother abused Kat when she was a young teenager and got her pregnant. He showed up in her life life several years later and charmed everyone in Walford. He even wooed Peggy Mitchell and the pair got engaged.

But when he tried to convince Zoe to go with him to Spain, everything was revealed – much to the horror of Kat’s daughter, Zoe. When Harry died, he left his money to Zoe. But she burned the cheque.

Lynne Hobbs

When Lynne came to Albert Square she was in a relationship with hapless mechanic Garry Hobbs. Garry was  commitment phobic, while Lynne was desperate to settle down and get married. Eventually,  the pair got engaged. But in the build up to the wedding, Lynne grew close to Beppe Di Marco and they slept together on the night before the wedding!

Beppe tried to stop the wedding but Lynne married Garry anyway. A couple of years later it was Garry who played away – hooking up with Ian Beale’s ex Laura. Laura got pregnant and for a while thought the baby was Garry’s. Lynne was heartbroken.

Eventually, though, she and Garry reconciled and Lynne was overjoyed when she finally got pregnant. But her baby girl Vivienne was stillborn and a heartbroken Lynne left the Square forever.

Little Mo Morgan (later Mo Mitchell)

Mo Morgan arrived in Walford with her charming husband Trevor. But Trevor wasn’t charming as he seemed. He was abusive and violent and a rapist. When Mo fought back she was arrested but she was later released. Trevor didn’t give up, though, and he continued tormenting Mo until his death.

Mo married Billy Mitchell and the sweet couple were happy until she was raped by a man she thought was her friend – Graham Foster. Mo found out she was pregnant and didn’t want to end her pregnancy. Billy though, couldn’t cope and their marriage ended. Mo left Walford with baby Freddie.

Freddie Slater

Mo’s son Freddie arrived in Walford looking for Billy – who he thought was his dad. When he found out the truth he was devastated, but he has managed to get over the shock and he’s happily settled in Albert Square.

Freddie struggled with ADHD and was involved in a love triangle with best friend Bobby Beale and his girlfriend Anna Knight. He and Anna left Walford last year to travel the world together.

The Slater family in EastEnders: Belinda Peacock

Belinda is the ‘posh’ Slater sister with a big house and a villa in Lanzarote! But when it turned out her husband Neville was controlling and more than a little – ahem – ‘adventurous’ in the hot tub, she left him. She came to Walford where she had a flirtation and brief romance with Grant Mitchell.

When her business hit financial trouble she toyed with the idea of becoming an escort, but with some help from Lauren, she got things back on track and started a romance with Masood. But eventually she left Albert Square to travel the world with an old schoolfriend.

And no, she’s not related to Elaine.

Kat Slater

There’s a lot to say about Kat! The loud-mouthed, leopard-print-wearing, damaged Slater sister. She’s an EastEnders icon, one of the Square’s most recognisable characters, and a true queen of Albert Square. When Kat first arrived in Walford, everyone thought she was Zoe’s big sister.

But it was eventually revealed that she was actually the teenager’s mother in that legendary scene. Kat had been abused and raped by her Uncle Harry.

It later turned out that Kat had actually had twins, and the baby boy – Luke – had been whisked away to be adopted, and had been brought up in Ireland. Kat’s reunion with her – how should we put this?  – troubled son, was explored in EastEnders spin-off Redwater.

Kat almost married gangster Andy Hunter only to jilt him at the altar for Alfie Moon. She married Alfie, they broke up and Kat had a baby with his murderous cousin Michael, and then reconciled with Alfie only for Ronnie Mitchell to swap baby Tommy with her own tot, who’d passed away from cot death.

She also had an affair with Derek Slater, had Alfie’s twins Bert and Ernie, and managed to put her betrayal aside and care for cousin Hayley when she had Alfie’s baby Cherry. Still with us?!

Kat almost married Phil Mitchell, but their relationship ended when he cheated. Now she’s back with Alfie and struggling to mend her relationship with teenage son Tommy, who has been abusive to her.

Zoe Slater

Troubled teen Zoe did not react well when she found out her sister was actually her mum!

Cast your mind back to the scene in the street when Kat was desperately trying to stop Zoe from going to live in Spain with her Uncle Harry. Zoe, cross at being told what to do, screamed: “You ain’t my mother!” at Kat. And Kat screamed back: “Yes I am!”

A legendary EastEnders moment and a huge plot twist for the Slaters. It turned out Kat had been abused by evil Uncle Harry when she was only a young teen. She’d got pregnant and her parents had brought the baby up as their own.

But the reveal of Zoe’s real parentage wasn’t even the most dramatic situation she found herself in during her time in Walford. She also murdered Dirty Den Watts! Well, she didn’t, but she thought she did.

When Zoe fell in love with Dennis Rickman it led to a complicated chain of events that ended with Zoe, Sam Mitchell and Den’s estranged wife, Chrissie Watts teaming up against the womaniser. In dramatic scenes. Den attacked Chrissie in the Queen Vic, and Zoe hit him over the head with a doorstop.

She thought she’d killed him and fled, with Sam following. But Den wasn’t dead – he revived and went for Chrissie again, and this time she whacked him and did kill him. Chrissie let Zoe believe she was to blame. Sam, though, had returned and she saw what Chrissie did.

Sam eventually told Zoe the truth and Zoe left Walford for Ibiza. She returned to the soap last year… and wasted little time in causing all manner of chaos again.

The Slater family in EastEnders: Luke/Dermott

Kat’s son Luke – also known as Father Dermott Dolan – never appeared in EastEnders. In fact, Kat didn’t even know he existed until a nun showed up in Walford and revealed all. Kat’s mum Viv had decided it was best to have the second baby – Zoe’s twin – adopted, in case he turned out like his dad. In fact, he was a chip off the old block!

In EastEnders spin-off Redwater, Kat met her son. but he had a murderous side!

The Slater family in EastEnders: Tommy Moon

Tommy’s dad is Michael Moon – Alfie’s cousin and another manipulative murderer! But Alfie considers Tommy his own son, and Kat doesn’t like to be reminded that Michael is her son’s biological father.

When Tommy was just a tiny baby, bereaved new mum Ronnie Mitchell took him from his cot, and left her own baby James – who’d died – in his place. Kat and Alfie went through weeks of torment before Ronnie fessed up and Tommy was returned to his parents.

Tommy’s been through some troubled times, having assaulted Kat and been cruel to his little brothers. He’s since made amends to his family, proving himself to be truly changed.

Bert and Ernie are twins. Their unusual name stuck after their dad Alfie named them when mum Kat was pregnant.

Jasmine Fisher

The Slater family found a new member last year, when Jasmine arrived in Walford. Jasmine, the soap revealed, was Zoe’s long-lost daughter, born of a hook-up with Anthony at some point after leaving Walford.

And Jasmine’s not alone either! Zoe has another child waiting in the wings – Jasmine’s twin brother, who Zoe initially thought had died during childbirth.

The other side of the Slater family in EastEnders: Violet and Brian Slater

Violet’s never been on screen but she was the sister of Charlie and Harry Slater. She married and had a son, Brian, and another child.

Another Slater who viewers never met, Brian Slater married Jean and they had two children – Sean and Stacey. But Brian was hiding a secret. He had a whole other family hidden away! He had another wife – Alison Slater – and long after Brian’s death, Stacey found out she had three siblings she’d never known abut.

Sean and his dad had a volatile relationship and for a long time Sean blamed himself for his dad’s death because he’d punched him before he fell from the ladder.

Jean looks disappointed

Jean Slater

Stacey’s mum Jean suffers from bipolar disorder and as a result Stacey and Sean had a difficult childhood. But since she came to Walford, Jean has become an EastEnders icon.

Her sausage surprise is legendary, her outfits inspiring, and she’s at the very heart of the show. Jean has battled cancer and grieved for her boyfriend Daniel Cook. She’s had an unhappy marriage to Ollie Walters, been scammed out of a pension she didn’t know she had, and lost her man to Kathy Beale.

Jean’s mental health suffered when Stacey left Walford last year, taking out her pain and frustration on Zoe and Jasmine, both of whom she blamed for different reasons. As it turned out, Jean was right about killer Jasmine though…

Sean Slater in EastEnders

Sean Slater

Troubled and troublesome, Sean Slater caused all sorts of upheaval in his time on the Square. He had several dirty romances, and then a torrid affair with Tanya Branning. He even teamed up with her to bury her husband Max alive!

But Sean was never more trouble than when he met his match in Roxy Mitchell! The pair fell in love, and it seemed Sean had put his troubles behind him. After one of EastEnders’ most iconic weddings, Roxy and Sean looked forward to the birth of their baby. But little Amy wasn’t Sean’s – she was Jack Branning’s daughter. Needless to say, Sean didn’t react well!

Stacey Slater

Stacey’s one of EastEnders’ most legendary characters. From arriving on the Square as a teenager, to now being a mum and nan, she’s been at the heart of some of the show’s biggest dramas!

Stacey fell in love with Bradley Branning and they eventually got married (twice, actually!) but she was secretly sleeping with his dad, Max. In one of the best ever Christmas episodes of EastEnders, the truth was revealed via Stacey and Bradley’s wedding video.

But there was more drama to come. Stacey was raped by Archie Mitchell and later killed him. Bradley took the blame and as he ran from the police, fell from the roof of The Queen Vic and died.

Stacey left Albert Square for a while, but later returned with daughter Lily. She met and married Martin Fowler and got pregnant with little Arthur – though it turned out Arthur’s real dad was Martin’s best mate Kush Kazemi. When Arthur was born Stacey suffered from post-partum psychosis and she ended up hospitalised. But she recovered and went on to have baby Hope with Martin, too.

When Ruby Allen came back to Walford, things got tricky for Stacey and she eventually went to prison for pushing Ruby downstairs. In prison she met and married Eve Unwin. The pair weren’t really a couple but they’re best friends. Though they’re now divorced and Eve’s married to Suki Panesar.

After grieving for Martin – who was killed in the explosion at The Queen Vic – Stacey decided to make a fresh start of it in Brazil with brother Sean.

Lily and Charli Slater

Lily is Stacey’s daughter. Her dad is Ryan Molloy, though she considered Martin to be her dad. When she was just 12 years old, Lily got pregnant after sleeping with her friend Ricky Branning. She gave birth to baby Charli in September 2023.

Charli is Lily’s baby daughter who was born when her mum was only just 13.

Hope and Arthur Fowler Jr,

Hope is Martin and Stacey’s daughter. She was born prematurely and for a while no one knew if she would survive – hence her name, Hope. Meanwhile, Arthur was the son of Stacey and Kush Kazemi, though Martin was a devoted stepdad. Sadly Arthur’s now tragically lost both his dads.

Kyle Slater

When Stacey discovered her dad Brian had another family, she discovered new siblings. Among the siblings was Kyle. He dreamed of being a chef and came to London to follow his dreams and meet his half-sister Stacey.

Kyle was born as Sarah and was trans. His mum Alison struggled with his decision to transition. Kyle left Walford after being offered a dream job cooking in a restaurant in France, and reconciling with his mum.

Kyle’s sisters Shannon and Siobhan have never been on screen. They’re Stacey’s half-sisters but she has not met them.

Hayley Slater and baby Cherry

The Slater family in EastEnders: Hayley and Cherry

Remember Charlie’s sister, Violet? She had two sons – Brian (Stacey and Sean’s dad) and another un-named boy. That boy grew up to marry a woman called Bev, and they had a daughter – Hayley. She arrived in Albert Square supposedly to spy on Martin Fowler.

But it eventually transpired that the troubled young woman was pregnant and hiding it. Hayley was drinking heavily, despite expecting a baby, and viewers were shocked when it was revealed that the father of Hayley’s baby was none other than Alfie Moon! She named her baby girl Cherry after Alfie’s beloved Nana Moon.

When the truth was revealed about Cherry’s parentage, Hayley shoved Alfie down the stairs. She thought she’d killed him, but instead he did a runner with the baby. Hayley tried to take her own life afterwards and Alfie later returned with the tot. Hayley was admitted into a psychiatric unit and baby Cherry stayed with the Slaters.

But after the break for the pandemic, it was revealed that Cherry was back with her mum and no one ever mentions her now – not even her dad, Alfie!
