Joe Tate’s dramatic accident, Gail’s goodbye and RosPreet giving us the ick – we’ve got a lot to say about this week’s Emmerdale!

Despite all our whingeing we thought this week's episodes were a triumph of soapy drama!
Kerry Barrett

Well! What a week that was. Joe’s accident got us all talking as he was shoved out of a window, Gail said goodbye, Lydia ghosted her own 50th birthday party, and we can’t even talk about Manpreet and Ross. Or should we say RosPreet? (Actually, no, we probably shouldn’t say that. Sorry.)

From sleazy hook-ups, to dramatic reveals, sad goodbyes and vows of vengeance, this week’s Emmerdale had it all.

Here’s what we thought of the action in this week’s Emmerdale review.

Gail’s goodbye

We do not blame Gail for leaving Emmerdale one little bit. Because how blooming horrible was everyone to her? Mocking her, laughing at her behind her back, dismissing her ideas, and generally just being mean. But while we think she made the right choice to go, we are really going to miss her.

There’s a place in soaps, and Emmerdale especially, for a little bit of wackiness. Maybe she’ll return one day and take over the Woolpack. We hope so!

Is this a guilty face? Well, probably not. But she’s still being a bit weird (Credit: ITV)

Moira’s looking guiltier and guiltier!

Once again, Moira was brushing off Cain’s concerns this week. She told him to stop fussing over estranged son Nate and concentrate on Isaac and Kyle. She even told him that nothing about Nate going AWOL was his fault. Which wasn’t strictly true.

Cain did beat poor Nate to a pulp shortly before he was leaving the village. We know that Moira being involved in Nate’s death is an outlandish suggestion, but she’s not helping herself is she?!

Manpreet in Emmerdale

Ross and Manpreet gave us the ick

Ross and Manpreet played a game of pool this week. Which led to some awful (and we do mean awful) double entendres about large cues and the like (apologies if we’ve not been entirely accurate here. We’ve blocked it out. Or at least, we’re trying to).

“Is there anything more excruciating that Manpreet and Ross flirting?” we wrote in our notes.

And it turned out that answer to that question was a resounding yes.

The morning after the night before was WAY more excruciating than this mismatched pair flirting. We need everyone involved in this to agree it will never happen again. NEVER.

The suspects in the Joe Tate whodunnit
Who pushed Joe Tate out of the window? It could have been Clemmie and we wouldn’t be sorry if it was! (Credit: ITV)

#TeamClemmie

We’ve never really paid much attention to Clemmie we must admit. She’s just always been there as a plot device. A complication.

Until Joe was SO CRUEL to her at the start of the week and we found we were furious. We cheered out loud when she bit evil Mr Tate on his arm, and we were very relieved when she told Billy what Joe had said to her. Well done that girl.

And if it turns out she was the one to give Joe a nudge out the window (unlikely we admit, given he’s a grown man and she’s a little girl) then we’ll be cheering even more!

Charity and Ruby

Ruby and Charity

Ruby and Charity should be friends. They need to be friends. What a formidable team they’d make. More of them together, please.

What has happened to Kim Tate?

We’re not totally on board with this new soft-hearted Kim. Dancing with Sam Dingle?! Sticking up for Joe? We thought she was just pretending to be on his side but were we wrong?

She was very quick to call herself his grandmother in hospital after Joe’s accident when strictly speaking they aren’t even related. It’s all making us feel a bit discombobulated.

Cheers, Paddy!

We love drunk Paddy. Drink more please, Paddy. And often.

Vinny, Gabby, Jimmy and Belle in Emmerdale

Remember Tom King’s death? Jimmy does!

In the build-up to Joe’s accident there were a lot of references to Tom King’s death when he plunged from an upstairs window at Home Farm on his wedding day. A. Lot.

In fact, as far as we could tell, that was the only reason Jimmy was invited to Lydia’s birthday party – just so he could reminisce about his dad’s death. Which, by the way, he didn’t witness.

He was not in the crowd of horrified wedding guests who were forced to listen to tiny Belle singing Walking in the Air, then watch Tom crash to the ground in a shower of broken glass. So quite how he remembers the singing and the sound of his dad hitting the terrace below the window we’re not sure.

Still it was nice to catch up with DS Desari, who we’ve not seen since he investigated Tom’s murder almost 20 years ago. Though we think he’s lucky to still be a detective, to be honest, after the mess he and his partner Barraclough made of that investigation!

Joe’s shove

We’re not sure how none of the party stragglers heard Joe crashing through the window and plunging on to the ground, but they didn’t. And we didn’t get to see it either, which was a bit of a shame. Though no doubt we’ll get to witness it all in flashback.

If that sounds a bit whingey, we don’t mean it to be. Because actually we thought this whole week of episodes was pretty darn good. Marvellous in fact. Joe’s accident was shocking, the build-up was fun, and really entertaining. We love the line-up of suspects and we’re thrilled that the kidney-stealing businessman is finally going to get his comeuppance.

It’s proper soap drama, and we’re looking forward to the fallout!
