Headstrong mermaid Ariel is obsessed with humankind and secretly collects discarded 'thingamabobs' in direct violation of orders from her father King Triton. During a violent storm, a ship commanded by Prince Eric runs aground and Ariel rescues him from a watery grave. A besotted Ariel makes a deal with a sea witch to swap her beautiful voice for human legs so she can impress the recovering nobleman.
