Coverage of the opening session on day one of the biennial event, held this year at Japan National Stadium in Tokyo. the first medals of the event are awarded in the men's and women's 35km race walks, and the men's 100m gets under way with the preliminary round. Heats also take place for the mixed 4x400m relay, as well as qualifying for the women's discus and men's shot put.
