On June 12, 2002, Philip Walsted, 24, was walking home from work in Tucson, Arizona when he was ambushed by David Higdon, a neo-Nazi white supremacist. Walsted was struck more than 50 times with a baseball bat. Initially thought to be a robbery, it was soon revealed to be a hate crime targeting Philip because he was gay. Higdon was arrested and charged with a hate-fuelled murder
