The drama continues as young lovers Jon and Fleur return home. In an effort to keep them apart, Soames organises a garden party for his daughter, while Jolyon decides a holiday would take his son's mind off matters of the heart, and sends him off to Paris. However, the separation doesn't have the hoped-for effect and succeeds only in strengthening the bond between the pair, who yearn to be reunited. Meanwhile, Annette seeks solace in the arms of Profond - much to cheated husband Soames' disgust - and Fleur finally discovers her father's shocking secret after finding a photograph of Irene hidden behind one of his wife.
