A Londoner signs up to join an auxiliary fire service in the East End during the Second World War. He and his fellow volunteers encounter resentment from the regular fire brigade, but gradually, the professionals come to realise they cannot keep the city safe without the amateurs' help. Ealing comedy drama, starring Tommy Trinder, James Mason, Mervyn Johns and William Hartnell
