Portugal's preparations for this tournament have been far from ideal, as they went into their opener with Spain without a win in five matches, with a goalless draw in a friendly with Nigeria ending a run of four straight defeats, but they will be hopeful of raising their game in this tournament. The Italians on the other hand went into the competition on the back of an encouraging UEFA Nations League campaign that saw them finish second in their group below Sweden and ahead of Denmark and Wales. They will see victory in this match as vital to their chances of progressing, with a clash with group favourites Spain to follow
