A look back at the girlband fever that swept through the UK in the 1990s and beyond, as young female singers burst onto the music scene inspired by US all-girl groups such as TLC and En Vogue. All Saints were one of the first, teaming street smarts with cool songs, closely followed by inter-racial four-piece Eternal with their smooth R&B-infused sound. But it was in 1994, when five wannabes answered an advert for a group who would eventually become known as the Spice Girls, that the game - and the rules - changed for ever
