Saving Giraffes: The Long Journey Home

Endangered animals become a symbol; of hope to a community torn apart by conflict in a National Geographic film directed by Tyler Schiffman. The Eastern Rift Valley in Africa is the ancestral home of the Rothchild's giraffe but these majestic creatures were wiped out in the region 70 years ago. Save Giraffes Now, The Ruko Conservancy, Northern Rangelands Trust and the Kenya Wildlife Service collaborate to rescue nine giraffes from a sinking island in Lake Baringo and relocate the animals to a 44,000 acre wildlife conservancy. Two tribes, who were previously at war, come together to save the giraffes and this inspirational story is captured in Schiffman's film

Saving Giraffes: The Long Journey Home airs on National Geographic WILD at 2:00 PM, Wednesday 14 May.
