A shipment of rifles is stolen by a former Confederate general in the aftermath of the American Civil War, and he begins selling them to hostile Apaches. A cavalry major is assigned to bring back the weapons, aided by a mismatched band including one of his fellow officers, a duplicitous Mexican and a drunken former rebel.
