Christmas: a time for giving - which is why advertisers pull out all the stops in a bid to persuade TV viewers to part with their hard-earned cash for the latest toys, gadgets, food, drink and whatever else they have to sell. This three-hour countdown recalls the advertising ghosts of past and present, 50 in total, from Action Man to Trivial Pursuit, the Stylophone to the Nintendo Wii, Paxo stuffing to Iceland platters and Hai Karate to Victoria Beckham Signature. With contributions from those who starred in the adverts and celebrities who were sufficiently convinced by the marketing messages to buy for their loved ones
