Rob Brydon has landed a brand new gig as host of “high stakes” primetime quiz show The Floor.

The comedian and Gavin & Stacey legend, 60, will be at the helm when the show hits viewers on ITV.

The Floor has already pulled in millions of fans abroad and its hoped the British public will love it just as much.

ITV bosses have described The Floor as “exciting” – and presenter Rob agrees with that assessment.

Rob said: “The Floor is a quiz show like no other – big, bold and bursting with excitement. I’m thrilled to be stepping onto it and guiding the contestants through the competition. Let’s light up the floor!”

Here’s what we know about Rob Brydon and The Floor, including the show’s huge cash prize that’s up for grabs and its start date.

How does The Floor work?

The Floor’s centre stage is a giant LED grid, which is split into 81 squares. Each square represents a different field of knowledge. These range from classic cars to reality TV, or history to sports.

81 contestants step onto the floor, with each standing in their chosen square. Their aim is to conquer the entire board and walk away with a massive £50,000 cash prize.

The rules are deceptively simple: a random contestant challenges a neighbouring opponent to a quiz duel. The duel takes place in the opponent’s category. The winner takes over the square, and the loser leaves the game for good.

As the game progresses, the board gets smaller. By the end of ten high-stakes episodes, only one contestant will remain standing.

The Floor’s Rob Brydon

Rob Brydon first won audiences over in the early 00s, in both the black comedy Human Remains and hilarious BBC mockumentary Marion and Geoff. Rob also played host Keith in the spoof chat show, The Keith Barret Show.

One of the character’s Rob is best know for playing, though, is Bryn West in Gavin & Stacey. The role of Stacey’s loveable uncle earned him a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Comedy Performance in 2009.

Rob has hosted BBC One panel show Would I Lie to You?, and has also presented his own late night show, The Rob Brydon Show. Thanks to his experience in these hosting roles, alongside his recent stint on BBC’s Destination X, viewers of The Floor will be in good hands.

Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment at ITV, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the hilarious national treasure that is Rob Brydon to the ITV family and he is undoubtedly the perfect host for this brand new primetime quiz.”

What other countries has The Floor aired in?

The Floor is already a worldwide sensation. Production company Talpa Studios, based in the Netherlands, initially created the series. It has since launched in 25 territories, including Australia, Spain, and Poland.

The series became an extremely popular hit across the Atlantic. It launched in America last year on Fox and is hosted by West Wing star Rob Lowe.

Where is the UK’s The Floor filmed?

Interestingly, the UK version of The Floor will not be filmed on our shores. It will instead be recorded in the Netherlands. This means Rob Brydon and the contestants can enjoy a nice European jolly!

When does ITV’s The Floor start?

ITV is yet to confirm when The Floor will air. The broadcaster is currently encouraging contestants to apply, which implies filming is yet to start. Hopefully it will be with us by 2026.
