Mr Bates vs the Post Office: The Impact
ITV1, 9pm
ITV’s Mr Bates vs The Post Office sparked a public outcry when it first aired in January this year, highlighting the plight of sub postmasters blamed for financial shortfalls after introducing the faulty Horizon IT system. It prompted new plans to compensate victims and a criminal investigation into the Post Office. The show’s success lay largely in the deeply affecting personal stories of the sub postmasters, many of whom were – at that time – still seeking acknowledgement and adequate compensation. In this new doc, the real-life sub postmasters who featured in the drama, as well as those coming forward with their stories for the first time, explain how their lives have changed since the show aired. It also touches on some of the more shocking moments from the Judge-led inquiry into the scandal, including the testimonies of Paula Vennells, Angela van den Bogerd and Post Office investigators.

The Major Crimes Unit goes door to door searching for tips, and it’s not long before the local rumour mill accuses a possible suspect. The concluding episode of this tense doc airs tomorrow, and is immediately available online after tonight’s broadcast.

The Teacher
Channel 5, 9pm
Season one of this drama in 2022 remains My5’s biggest ever drama launch with 6.3 million streams. It featured a star turn from Sheridan Smith, who portrayed a teacher facing accusations of drunkenly sleeping with a pupil. Now an anthology, it boasts a new story and big-name stars, including Kara Tointon as Dani, an art teacher in an unhappy marriage with husband Tim (Emmett J Scanlan). When flirting with colleague Jimmy (Will Mellor) turns into something more on a school trip, Dani leaves her class of children unattended to sleep with him. On the pair’s return, one of the students has disappeared. When things take a sinister turn, Dani lies to the police about her whereabouts that day.
