Ruby and John in Emmerdale

What happened in Emmerdale last night (Monday, April 14) – John Sugden was forced to admit that he lied about Anthony’s burial site after Steph insisted on doing some digging… literally.

Meanwhile, Joe Tate made it clear he plans on sticking around and he has Caleb in his sights.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale last night.

John admitted to lying about Anthony

Steph refused to let go of the idea that Anthony is still alive, so Ruby went to find John in order to put Steph’s mind at rest.

But when they returned, Steph had disappeared. John quickly figured out that if she wanted proof that Anthony was dead, she’d head to the woods to find his body.

John, Aaron and Caleb found Steph digging in the woods. However, she told them that there was nothing there. “Nothing has ever been dug. It isn’t possible.” She got an unlikely ally in John’s fiancé Aaron, who after looking at the ground, said: “She’s right.” He then accused John of lying.

John admitted that Anthony’s body wasn’t really buried there. He said he thought someone would slip up, so thought it best if only he knew the truth. Steph demanded to know where he really is, but John refused to tell.

Aaron wasn’t happy about being kept in the dark either, and he didn’t realise how close to the truth he was when he told John that he should have told him the truth ‘instead of trying to play the hero again.’

Ruby discovered who sent the flowers in Emmerdale last night

In the village, Jai approached Ruby and made a remark about he being the only one who did any work. When Ruby walked away, he said: “Walking away? You know, I only thought you did that when I mentioned Anthony’s name.”

It clicked for Ruby that Jai had been the one to send the flowers from Anthony. Jai said he didn’t like being fobbed off by Caleb and insisted that people don’t just disappear for no reason.

Ruby told Jai he was disgusting before saying: “There was a reason, but it has nothing to do with you.”

As Ruby then revealed that her dad had raped her ‘whenever he felt like it,’ Jai must have wished he could invent a time machine. He apologised, but Ruby wasn’t having any of it and made him feel even more guilty.

She said she thought it was finally over ‘until your flowers arrived. And you have no idea how that felt. Like he was never gonna leave me alone.’

Jai apologised again later on in the pub, and said he’d take some leave from work. Will he accept that Anthony run away to escape Caleb’s wrath, or will he keep digging?

Joe plotted to get closer to Caleb

As if stealing a kidney from him wasn’t enough, Joe now wants dirt on his uncle Caleb – presumably to use as blackmail if his ludicrous illegal transplant comes to light.

Joe’s suspicions were aroused when he was fobbed off by Ruby. After enquiring what Steph had meant when she said they weren’t related, Ruby told Joe to back off.

Later, in the pub, after gifting Noah a bottle of bourbon from Chicago (that Noah treated like a baby), Joe asked Noah what he thought about Caleb.

Joe stared at Caleb as he told Noah: “I think I should get to know uncle Caleb. Get some dirt on him. It’s always good to stay one step ahead with people like that. Just in case.”

Tracy and Kerry in Emmerdale tonight

What happened in Emmerdale last night: Tracy tried to find Nate

After a misunderstanding with Claudette, Kerry convinced Tracy to try and find Nate.

When Claudette told Tracy she should keep the free Easter egg that came with her purchases, Tracy got defensive. She wrongly thought Claudette saw her as a charity case following the revelation that she had stolen from Pollard.

Tracy later told Kerry: “At least Frankie will get an egg now because I can’t afford to buy her any.” She then joked that maybe Nate would send one.

At the mention of Nate’s name, Kerry told Tracy that she shouldn’t give Nate any peace until he puts his hand in his pocket. When Tracy said Nate’s phone was always off, Kerry suggested looking up his place of work in Shetland online. “How many wind farms can there be up there?” Well, Kerry, according to Google, there are four…

However, despite the fact Tracy wasn’t faced with an extensive list to work through, she later told Kerry that she’d changed her mind. She insisted she wasn’t going to waste any more time chasing after Nate and that they’re better off without him. She may soon rue those words when his body is dredged out of the lake

Joe tells Kim how much he loves Dawn in Emmerdale

What happened in Emmerdale last night: Kim warned Joe off Dawn… again

Dawn arrived home early from her romantic break with Billy. Kim was concerned, but Dawn reassured her that her and Billy are in a good place.

That feeling lasted precisely seven seconds as Dawn found herself face-to-face with Joe again. Joe tried to apologise to Dawn, and said he only took off because he panicked.

Dawn stood firm though and told Joe that she is happy with Billy… if only her face got that memo.

Kim soon told Joe that he had to move out as she didn’t want him around Billy and Dawn. Joe told Kim that he loved Dawn and was even willing to be a family with her kids.

Kim kept warning Joe off,  telling him that Dawn loved Billy. He pointed out that Dawn and Billy’s romantic break only lasted one night. “That doesn’t exactly scream ‘happy couple’ to you, does it? She deserves someone who loves her,” he said.

Kim once again told Joe to leave, but he remained firm and told her that he wasn’t losing Dawn again so she best get used to having him around.
