Sarah Sugden has spent the last few months trying to do everything she could to make sure her IVF would work. Initially she kept it a secret from everyone. Jacob was the first one to discover the truth and told her it was a bad idea. But the tables turned and now he has offered to be her sperm donor. However, while on the IVF journey, Sarah discovered she had cervical cancer. And not long ago, Charity and Cain both found out the truth and were horrified. But Sarah remained adamant she would be a mum. Things took a turn last night (June 26) when she headed in for her operation. And things didn’t go to plan. The news is obviously devastating for Sarah, and for those around her having to watch her heart break. So, let’s have a look at the biggest theories. Charity is everyone’s number one theory (Credit: ITV) 1. Charity The main theory is that Charity Dingle will ultimately end up being the surrogate for Sarah in Emmerdale. Especially after their argument right before Sarah’s surgery. Charity is already a mum of four; Debbie, Ryan, Noah and Moses. But over the years she has basically raised Sarah ever since Debbie decided to leave. Ever since she heard about Sarah’s IVF plans, Charity has been pretending to be fine with it in order to keep Sarah talking to her about everything. But right before Sarah’s surgery, the truth came out leading to a very intense argument between them. Some fans think Charity’s guilt over the argument will result in her offering to be a surrogate for Sarah. One fan wrote on X: “So, Charity being Sarah’s surrogate storyline is incoming?” Another added: “I get the feeling Charity will be a surrogate so Sarah can have a baby.” Vanessa was the first to know about Sarah’s IVF (Credit: ITV) 2. Vanessa Charity may be the main theory, but Vanessa Woodfield seems to be another character Emmerdale fans think could be a surrogate for Sarah. When Sarah was initially planning on doing IVF, Vanessa was the first person she told. And she accompanied her to all of her first appointments. Despite her initial concerns, Vanessa was excited for Sarah to go down that journey of being a mum. However, her presence in the storyline has slimmed ever since Nate’s body was discovered and she has been more involved with Tracy’s storyline. But fans haven’t forgotten how Vanessa was there for her. And some think she may appear again to be a surrogate for Sarah. One wrote: “So, Vanessa’s going to be Sarah’s surrogate?” Another responded: “It does look that way!” Belle has been trying to live a free life after Tom (Credit: ITV) 3. Belle to be a surrogate for Sarah in Emmerdale? While Belle Dingle hasn’t been involved in Sarah’s storyline, there are only a small number of women in the village who could be a surrogate for Sarah. Now that Belle is finally living her life, away from her abusive marriage with Tom, she is still adjusting to normal life. But perhaps she decides that helping someone in her family would be something she would want to do. And with Belle actress Eden Taylor-Draper teasing a future romance, if she goes down this road for Sarah, it could cause some bumps. Debbie left Sarah with Charity (Credit: ITV) 4. Debbie While Debbie isn’t even in the village, some fans think the recent mention of her moving to Australia could be a sign she is either making a return or will be involved in the storyline. Sarah and Debbie haven’t necessarily been close over the last lot of years, ever since Debbie left her to move away. But some fans think Debbie may decide to be Sarah’s surrogate. It’s unclear if Debbie even knows what is going on with her daughter, though. And based on her recent move, it doesn’t seem too likely she would carry a baby for her daughter. However one fan pointed out that if Sarah actress Katie Hill was taking a break, she could perhaps go to Australia while Debbie was being her surrogate. Sarah and Victoria are family – but they never interact (Credit: ITV) 5. Could Victoria be a surrogate for Sarah in Emmerdale? Sarah is technically Victoria Sugden’s niece, since Andy is Vic’s adopted brother. But for some reason, the pair rarely interact, and Victoria hasn’t been involved with Sarah’s storyline at all. But Victoria recently spoke about how she had been feeling lonely. And perhaps, doing something for a member of her family may be exactly what she needs – even if they never have scenes together. Talking on a Reddit thread, one fan wrote: “I know they will probably have Charity as the surrogate, but wouldn’t Sarah’s aunt Victoria be a better option?” Another user joked: “That would require remembering they are related.” Whether or not Sarah even decides to look for a surrogate in Emmerdale remains to be seen. But as she was desperate to be a mum, it doesn’t seem like she would give up easily.
