It’s been something soap fans have been hoping for ever since he left in 2019 and now it seems wishes really do some true. We’re closer to a Robron reunion than we have ever been since 2019 and it’s the best decision the soap could’ve made. He’s back! (Credit: ITV) Robert Sugden’s return in Emmerdale There has been a huge Robert Sugden shaped hole in Emmerdale ever since 2019. But, he’s finally back, and back with a bang. Last night (Wednesday, May 28), Aaron and John were about to start saying their vows when Aaron’s ex-husband Robert made an entrance and shocked everyone. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Viewers believed that he was still in prison for Lee Posner’s death, so it was quite the jaw-dropping moment to see him back in the Dales as a free man. Robert’s ‘miss me?’ made such an impact, with the wedding guests having no idea what was going to happen next. And, neither did us viewers. If you ask us, Robert might’ve just prevented Aaron from marrying a seriously dangerous guy at his wedding. A lucky escape? Well, we’ll have to wait and see what Aaron decides to do next… A welcome return (Credit: ITV) Opinion: Bringing Robert Sugden back was a genius move It’s no secret that many fans view Robron as one of the best soap couples. They were couple goals. When Robert left and went to prison, leading to his and Aaron’s divorce, we were devastated and started calling for Robert’s return from this moment on. When we think of Emmerdale at its best, we think of the Robron era and the buzz it created. The era when Chrissie rumbled their affair, with her fury towards Robert leading to the helicopter crash the ended up killing Ruby Haswell and Val Pollard. Edge of your seat stuff. Robert’s return is so nostalgic (and someone must pinch us over the fact we’ve got Robert Sugden, Ross Barton and Joe Tate all back on our screens in 2025!) We’re all ready for the drama, with Robert’s return having us hoping for the Robron reunion we’ve all been longing for. And as for John Sugden, we’re desperate for Robert to be the one responsible for bringing him down. It would only seem right. With Emmerdale already having such an exciting year with such powerful and well-developed characters such as the Miligans and Dingles, as well as the recent Joe Tate whodunnit and limo lake crash, Robert’s return was the icing on the cake. A genius move. And we’re not even half way through the year yet. Soaps fans are noticeably talking about Emmerdale in such a positive and exciting way recently, and long may it continue.
