As both left under some controversy. Ellis first arrived in the village in 2018, played by Asan N'jie. As the brother of Billy and the son of Al, Ellis had plenty of storylines thrown his way. But one year later Asan was sacked and Aaron Anthony was brought in. However, he didn't actually stay much longer. As in 2022 it was confirmed that his final scenes had aired. And once again it was surrounded in controversy. While he wasn't sacked like Asan was, it was reported a racism row led to him quitting the show. Ellis left the village behind one week before his brother's wedding, after he secured a huge job opportunity in Australia that couldn't wait. What was the reported racism row? It was reported that there had been an ongoing racism row on the set of Emmerdale, which left cast members Matthew Wolfenden and Isabel Hodgins absent from the soap for a period of time. An investigation was launched following a clash on location while stunt scenes were filmed. There were reportedly offensive remarks made. David and Victoria were then temporarily written out while the investigation was ongoing, with their characters heading on a holiday. But they didn't stay away for long, and Aaron was reportedly unimpressed with the situation. What was said about Emmerdale Ellis Chapman actor Aaron's exit? A source told The Sun at the time: "Aaron is bitterly angry about this situation and he has had to be persuaded to come back to Leeds to film his scenes in recent months. "He has done some filming over the last couple of weeks, but the understanding is that those scenes will be his last." The source confirmed that Aaron had been "very vocal" in his opinions on the allegations, and didn't like the way the situation had been handled by bosses. They continued: "He now feels that his position on the show is untenable."
