What happened in Emmerdale on Thursday: Caleb attacked Joe and John said goodbye to Aidan
It was a dramatic night in the Dales
In Thursday’s Emmerdale recap (April 17) Caleb found the truth out about Joe and became determined to kill him.
Meanwhile John headed to the hospital yet again, and he finally named the man in the coma – Aidan. So, we finally have answers on whether Aidan is really dead or not.
Elsewhere Dawn ended her marriage to Billy, but refused to tell him about Joe.
Read on for a full Emmerdale recap.

Caleb worked out the truth about Joe
Caleb headed to the private clinic to speak to Dr Crowley, only to discover no doctor of that name works there. And when he bumps into Dawn in the village, she revealed that Joe fell while he was away and needed stitches – in the exact same place as Caleb.
He then heads to Home Farm to speak to Joe, and gets the opportunity to find out what meds he is on. And when he did, everything fell into place.
Caleb acted as if he was struggling, and thanked Joe for helping him. But when he pulled him into a hug, he lashed out and attacked him right where his scar is. Joe was yelling in pain as Caleb ripped his stitches open, trying to get him to confess. And eventually he did.
Joe explained that he had already had a kidney transplant and it failed. But, he knew he had a better shot if it was from a family member. Caleb put it together that Joe also was the one who drugged Noah, and told him he was responsible for three deaths.
Emmerdale recap: Joe blackmailed Caleb
When Joe threatened to call the police, Caleb told him he would beat him to it. But Joe made it clear he got rid of anything that ties him to the attack. However, Caleb pointed out one thing connects him – the kidney.
But Joe then flips the situation telling Caleb that he knows he killed Anthony because of something he had done to either Ruby or Steph. And if Caleb tells the police, then he will too.
Caleb agrees to keep quiet purely for Kim and Steph but warns Joe that it’s not over – right as Kim walks in and sees the blood.
Before he left, Caleb told Kim that she should get Joe out of Home Farm “in a coffin” because he is “the devil”. Something tells us he isn’t going to let Joe get away with this.

Kim and Joe had a heart-to-heart
After Caleb left Kim was appalled to hear what Joe had done. But he told her he had been dying alone for so long and just wanted to live again.
She tried to tell him that she would have gotten him help, but he refused to believe her. But he asked her to keep quiet for Dawn’s sake. He also explained that they are more alike than she ever realised.
And when it came down to it, Kim agreed to keep Joe’s secrets.
Caleb came up with a plan in Emmerdale recap
Heading to the farm, Caleb asked Cain if he knew someone who could get him a gun. And when his brother asked why, Caleb informed him he wanted to kill Joe once and for all – just like Cain thought he had done years ago. But he wants his brother’s help. He told Cain everything, so will the brother’s become united in a plan to take down Joe?

Dawn ended her relationship with Billy in Emmerdale recap
Kim realised that Dawn and Joe were seeing each other again and that she was going to end things with Billy. While she tried to talk her out of it, nothing would work. And when Charity overheard the conversation, she gave it a shot too. But Dawn was adamant that Joe was for her.
When Billy arrived at the pub, Dawn blindsided him by revealing that she needs their marriage to be over and that she isn’t in love with him anymore.
Naturally Billy was heartbroken, and he immediately suspected that there was someone else – but Dawn said there wasn’t…

John and Aaron’s wedding prep got underway
Victoria took the lead on all things wedding. But when it came to the guest list, John wanted it much smaller – and didn’t want Nate to be invited.
While Aaron was initially adamant that Nate should be there, John tried to make him see that Nate didn’t deserve to be invited. And after a lot of back and forth, Aaron agreed.
But when the conversation turned to who John would be inviting, he made it clear nobody from his life would there. He admitted he lost touch with his school friends, has no other close family members and has moved on from his army days. The only person he wants there is Aaron.

The mystery coma man is revealed as Aidan
John headed to the hospital and was surprised to see a woman, Kathleen there. She immediately recognised John – does that mean he actually is John Sugden? When John asked for some time alone with the man in the coma, she agreed.
John tells the man that he will never wake up and apologises for lashing out at him. He then fills him in on what happened with Jacob, telling him that he “worked my magic” (Is that what we’re calling almost killing someone?)
He reflects on the life he had with the man in hospital, telling him that he always felt second best – something that Aaron never makes him feel.
When he tells him he won’t be returning he says his goodbyes, and for the first time we hear his name – Aidan. That’s right the Aidan Moore who John said was dead. And as many fans predicted, he is alive – just in a coma.

Elsewhere…
Meanwhile Jacob and Kammy’s feud for Sarah continues and Jacob asked him for a car race. But Kammy said he would only do it on dirt bikes on open roads – so Jacob agreed.
Charity and Sam tried to make him see it was a bad idea, but Jacob is determined to get Sarah back no matter what. So, Charity made it clear he had to get training beforehand. Will Jacob win the race?
