As Emmerdale confirms John’s secrets, fans are more confident than ever that he isn’t really a Sugden

Emmerdale confirmed that John Sugden had a whole lot of secrets, including a murder. But is he hiding another huge one? It looks extremely possible.

Viewers had some of their theories proved right when it was revealed that John did kill Nate. It was also confirmed that Ella was totally innocent and he was the one who drugged Chas and threw the brick through the pub window.

And while he could be gearing up to be one of Emmerdale’s most sinister villains, as far as we know, he has actually only killed one person. For a while fans have refused to believe he is actually a Sugden, and after the secrets were revealed, now more than ever they are convinced he is hiding who he really is.

Who is John Sugden in Emmerdale?

John met Victoria at a funeral last year, where he claimed to be a Sugden, which left her shocked. He claimed that Jack Sugden was also his father – but that he and Victoria had different mums.

Not long after that, he began getting settled into village life, and began a relationship with Aaron – who was married to John’s half-brother, Robert. But initially, John didn’t really want to get to know his family, trying to stay away from them all.

There has been a very popular theory that John isn’t John. But actually, he got rid of the real Sugden so that he could steal his identity. And with him making trips to visit a mystery man in a coma, could that be the real John Sugden?

So, with everything we know about John now, could his reluctance to grow close to his family have been because he wasn’t actually John? And he was scared they would work it out if he got close to them?

Is John really someone else?

If that is the case, then something changed his mind. And if that secret got out then the game would be up for John. Which is something he is not going to want to happen.

Taking to X to discuss the theory, one fan wrote: “Been saying it the last lot of months. John stole the ID of Victoria’s brother. The guy he was talking about this week, who he couldn’t save. That was Victoria’s real brother.”

Another backed this up. They penned: “I feel like the guy in the coma is the real John Sugden.”

“If John is actually Aidan, then he is going to be screwed if the real John wakes up from that coma” a third added.

With fans having been right about quite a lot to do with John so far, could this be another twist which is yet to be revealed?
