While Jodie has been causing suspicion since her arrival on the cobbles, it’s her latest actions that have really got viewers talking. Many are now convinced she could be following in the footsteps of John. And for those who remember just how far John went, it’s quite a terrifying thought. She hasn’t been truthful about her past, spinning a false story about being trapped in an abusive relationship. Her connection to Emmerdale was also established straight away. She was in the back of Graham Foster’s van during the Corriedale crossover. Graham later explained he had been hired to deal with a “problem named Jodie”. But ultimately he chose to walk away — leaving her free to start again in Weatherfield. In recent scenes, Jodie has gone out of her way to win over those around her. She risked her life running into a burning café to save Roy, earning praise from the community. Then, in a more questionable move, she used Lisa’s badge to steal a tablet from a young girl after overhearing David mention Lily wanted one. Taken individually, these actions might seem unconnected. Jodie’s storyline feels quite similar (Credit: ITV) The John Sugden comparison explained For Emmerdale viewers, the idea of a “hero complex” storyline immediately brings John Sugden to mind. His arc saw him carry out a string of shocking acts — including killing Nate, poisoning Jacob, pushing Aaron off a cliff, and imprisoning Mack — all while convincing himself he was ultimately helping people. John’s need to be seen as a saviour led him to create dangerous situations, just so he could step in and “fix” them. While there’s no suggestion she’s caused the café fire, she was quick to run into danger — and enjoy the praise afterwards. Add to that her willingness to cross moral lines, like stealing the tablet, and the theory begins to take shape. Viewers have taken to social media to draw the comparison, with many pointing out the similarities to John’s storyline. One fan wrote: “Does Jodie have some sort of hero complex? The way she just ran into that fire?” Another said: “They’ve just had a hero complex storyline in Emmerdale, so chances are you’re bang on with that theory.” In a longer discussion, one viewer suggested: “I wonder if she’s a similar case to John from Emmerdale. She’ll do all she can to appear like a hero or samaritan.
