What went down with him and Kat Slater? And who did he accidentally murder? Son of Patrick and Audrey Trueman, Anthony was last seen on the square in 2014. But on Monday (August 25) that all changed, as he returned to Walford for Patrick and Yolande’s upcoming nuptials. Here’s everything you need to know about Anthony Trueman… He was a firm favourite back in the day (Credit: BBC) EastEnders: Anthony Trueman background Anthony first appeared on EastEnders on 11 December 2000, played by Nicholas Bailey. He was introduced as the son of Audrey, along with half-brother Paul. Unlike Anthony, Paul had an estranged relationship with his mum after leaving a girl seriously injured in a drunken car crash when he was young. Kat and Anthony dated back in the day (Credit: BBC) Anthony Trueman and Kat Slater After his arrival in Walford, Anthony started dating Kat Slater – much to Audrey’s disapproval. She tried to interfere several times which strained Anthony’s relationship with her. In 2001, Audrey died, and Anthony’s long-lost father, Patrick, made his debut and reunited with his two sons after decades apart for Audrey’s funeral. Although hostile at first, Anthony and Paul accepted Patrick into their family. Things took a dramatic turn though when Paul started to suspect that Patrick wasn’t his real father. As a result, he secretly arranged a DNA test and found out that he wasn’t Patrick’s biological son – but Anthony was. He was also engaged to Zoe (Credit: BBC/Comp EastEnders Insider) Anthony’s romance with Zoe Slater In 2002, Kat broke up with Anthony for the first of many times, and he then started dating her teenage daughter Zoe Slater – much to Kat’s shock. Their relationship ruffled plenty of feathers, especially when Zoe and Anthony got engaged. However, Anthony later confessed to Zoe that he still harboured feelings for Kat – and they slept together on what should have been his wedding day. Fuming, Zoe then ran away. Anthony and Kat rekindled things shortly after but it wasn’t meant to be as she broke up with him again after not managing to impress his work colleagues. To make things awkward, Kat ended things just as he was about to propose. However, Kat found out that she was pregnant with Anthony’s baby and decided to have an abortion. She ended up backing out after being persuaded by Alfie Moon. But sadly, while on the way to tell Anthony about the pregnancy, Kat suffered a miscarriage. Realising he is not the one for her, Kat then broke up with Anthony for a final time. He was last seen in 2014 (Credit: BBC/Composite: EI) Anthony’s shock EastEnders exit Things took a dramatic turn for Anthony in 2003 when he caused the death of a pregnant patient. As a result, he decided to leave Walford to go travelling. A year later, Anthony returned briefly to the soap in July 2004 for Patrick’s wedding to Yolande. He then made another short-lived comeback in February 2005 for Paul’s funeral. He was killed by a hitman after getting involved in some dodgy criminal dealings. It was later revealed that Anthony had settled down in Glasgow after living in Cambodia for several years. He married a woman named Sophie and has two children, Euan and another son. Anthony’s is back on the soap (Credit: BBC) When was Anthony last on EastEnders? Fast forward to 2014, and Anthony was back in the square after hearing about Patrick’s stroke. Although he felt obliged to take care of his father, a heartbroken Anthony revealed he was still not over the fact that Patrick was so absent in his childhood. He paid £2000 to Denise Fox to take care and look after Patrick, and Anthony then returned to Scotland. Six years later, while the soap was off-screen it was revealed that Anthony had returned to look after Patrick who had contacted COVID-19 – with the pair making amends.
