What happened in Emmerdale Thursday: Joe Tate was pushed out of a window as Charity exposed his secrets
Joe upset everybody
In Emmerdale on Thursday, Joe’s many enemies gathered as they attended Lydia’s birthday party and one of them pushed him out of a window.
In an hour-long episode set almost completely at Home Farm, Kim Tate threw a party for Lydia Dingle. The Dingles and the Tates combining – what could possibly go wrong?
It seemed the entire village had been invited, the only person missing was Lydia herself. Amongst the party goers was everyone Joe Tate has wronged since his return in December – it’s a long list.
As the atmosphere at the party grew tense, Joe’s secrets were revealed to everyone. Soon, Joe was lying on the ground surrounded by glass after being pushed out of a window. But who did it?
Here’s a rundown of what happened in Emmerdale on Thursday, 8 May.

Noah discovered the truth about Joe in Emmerdale
While looking for money, Noah Dingle came across a vial of drugs in mum Charity’s bag. She confessed she was planning on using it to drug Joe, like he had done to Noah.
Charity was determined to get through to Noah as she shared that she knew for sure Joe had been the one to spike him.
“He’s ill, that’s the only reason he came back. Because he needed you, your kidney. Or at least he thought he did,” she shared with Noah.
Noah then asked a question we’ve all wanted to know the answer to: Why didn’t he just ask Noah? “I’d have done it. I’d have taken the test,” Noah said.
It then clicked with Noah that Caleb losing his kidney might not be a coincidence after all. Despite Charity knowing Joe took Caleb’s kidney, she fobbed Noah off, telling him to forget that idea.

Death was the subject for the guests
While birthday girl Lydia was no-where to be seen (lucky her!) the other guests got into the spirit of things by talking about death… as you do.
Matty felt sad to be partying without late wife Amy, while Cain treated the event like a wake, telling Joe he’d drawn the short straw by having to come.
Meanwhile, Jimmy shared that he hadn’t been back to Home Farm since Will died. And in some foreboding perhaps, he regaled Gabby and Vinny with the story of how his dad Tom King was killed at Home Farm. “Shoved out of a window,” Jimmy said.
As the night continued, he went on to share the story, adding more details. “I’ll never forget the sound. The glass shattering. Dad hitting the ground.” Did someone overhear and get an idea?

The police questioned Joe in Emmerdale
While the party was in full swing, Joe was stopped in his tracks when two police officers arrived to question him about the abduction and drugging of Noah Dingle.
Joe acted bemused and demanded to know who’d make such an accusation. Noah then stepped into the room and admitted it was him.
While the guests looked on in shock, Joe took the police aside and showed them ‘evidence’ that he was out of the country when the crime took place. He did a pretty convincing job and the police left him to it.
The guests needed more convincing, however, and it didn’t take long before Noah gave them all the pieces of the puzzle. They were soon all blaming Joe for the deaths of Amy, Leyla and Suzy.
Amy’s husband Matty and her mum Kerry were fuming at the discovery and demanded Cain do something. But with Joe having blackmailed the Dingles/Miligans over Anthony’s death, Cain was stuck between a rock and a hard place as he had to pretend there was no evidence for Noah’s accusation.
Kim also defended Joe, telling the guests that Joe’s scar was from a private operation he’d had in America for an illness.
Meanwhile, Manpreet realised that Joe had used her in order to discover if Caleb was a match for a kidney transplant. Joe of course denied this too.

Charity outed Dawn and Joe’s affair
As several of the guests took it in turns to shout at Joe, Dawn came to his defence. Charity had had enough and told everyone: “Of course she’d lie for him, she’s sleeping with him.”
Most of the guests couldn’t believe their luck at the spectacle, but Kim soon put an end to the fun by ending the party.
Despite already knowing about the affair, Billy was embarrassed at it now being made public. As Dawn tried to talk to him, he told her what kind of man Joe is.
He revealed that Clemmie had spotted Dawn and Joe together and Joe had then threatened Clemmie, leaving her worried that she’d be sent back to care.
Dawn later question Joe on the accusations – although he finally admitted to her that he did drug Noah, he denied taking Caleb’s kidney or threatening Clemmie. How many lies has this man told?

Joe was pushed from a window
Throughout the party, Joe wound up all the suspects in the previously confirmed whodunnit story – making them all more angry than they already were.
After he mocked Cain and Caleb, Joe then laughed at Ruby while she told him she’d love to wipe that smirk off his face. Meanwhile Charity attempted to do just that by drugging his drink. Though she later changed her mind and ‘accidentally’ spilt the drink. Towards the end of the episode, Noah told his mum he was going to talk to Joe, but did he make it?
Elsewhere, Billy spent the whole episode agitated. This wasn’t helped by Joe constantly looking down on him – even offering him a tuxedo to wear for the party.
Kerry said she “wouldn’t let” Joe get away with killing Amy, while Dawn was embarrassed by Joe’s actions, and then furious when she discovered he’d had words with Clemmie.
As Jimmy said, “we should count ourselves lucky that no one died tonight”, the final scene saw Joe lying on the floor below a broken window. But which one of his many enemies pushed him?

Belle revealed she’d received a letter about her divorce from Tom. “It’s the decree nisi, the conditional offer.” As the other Dingles realised Belle was finally shot of Tom, they demanded she celebrate. Drink to that.
