All the similarities between Joe Tate’s push and Tom King’s death as Emmerdale pays homage to huge past whodunnit
There are a lot of similarities between the fate of the two men at Home Farm!
Joe Tate has taken a tumble from an upstairs window at Home Farm during a party in Emmerdale in scenes reminiscent of Tom King and his wedding day death.
Joe’s accident has left some villagers shaken, others celebrating and some just wondering who was responsible! The kidney-stealing businessman has
But he’s not the first over-confident man to be shoved out of a window at Home Farm. As Jimmy King kept reminding everyone, his dad – Tom King – died when he was pushed through his bedroom window on his wedding day.
Fans of Classic Emmerdale on ITV3 will recently have seen the Christmas episode featuring Tom King’s death from December 2006.
So we thought it was time to have a look at the similarities and the differences between the two dramatic window plunges!

Joe Tate was pushed at Home Farm in Emmerdale, just like Tom King
Of course the location of both Joe and Tom’s window dive is the same. Home Farm. The house has changed a lot in the two decades since Tom died but the outside of the building is the same.
Windows!
And it seems silly to say it, but of course one big similarity between the pair’s dramatic plunge is that they both went out of an upstairs window at Home Farm, crashing down on to the terrace.

Tom King and Joe Tate both built up a list of Emmerdale enemies
In the lead-up to Tom King’s death, the bolshy businessman managed to annoy just about everyone in Emmerdale. He and his sons, Carl, Jimmy and Matthew, were responsible for the show home explosion that killed Bob’s daughter Dawn. And Tom had paid off Dawn’s mum, Jean, and she’d scarpered taking Dawn’s son TJ with her.
He’d been cruel to Edna Birch, infuriating her friend Len Reynolds, he’d meddled in Carl and Chas’s engagement, and announced he was giving his business to Carl, leaving Jimmy and Matthew seething.
Joe too managed to annoy a whole lot of people. As Gabby said just before he fell, “most of the village will be after him”. Kerry and Matty were devastated to know Joe was responsible for the limo crash that killed Amy. As was Eric. Charity and Noah are fuming about Joe trying to steal Noah’s kidney. The ‘murder club’ were desperate to keep Joe quiet about Anthony’s death, while Billy was angry that Joe had been sleeping with Dawn.

Drama after the party
Tom sneaked away from his own wedding party while it was in full swing. He told his bride Rosemary to meet him upstairs in ten minutes. Joe, however, was upstairs. The party had ended early – thanks to everyone finding out what he did – and there were just a few stragglers left.

All the onlookers
When Tom fell, the wedding guests had made their way out on to the terrace to watch the celebratory fireworks. Small Belle Dingle was – as Jimmy said – entertaining everyone with a rendition of Walking In the Air from The Snowman. And then Tom came crashing through the window and on to the terrace in front of the horrified guests.
No one saw Joe fall. There was no dramatic glass shattering or a gasp from shocked onlookers. Just Noah staring at disbelief at his brother, and then Kim coming outside and calling for help.
And the big difference between Joe Tate and Tom King in Emmerdale?
Joe’s not dead! Tom died instantly when he was pushed out of the window, but Joe is still alive! At least for now. Will he pull through?
