Ned Porteous in Emmerdale

Thursday’s episode of Emmerdale saw Joe Tate pushed from a window and left for dead. Will Joe survive or does this mean actor Ned Porteous is leaving the soap?

Emmerdale recently confirmed that one of Joe’s many enemies will take revenge on the schemer and tonight’s episode saw that play out.

With Joe left for dead on the ground, things don’t look good for him. Here we explore what it means for Ned Porteous, who plays Joe.

Ned Porteous exit fears as Joe’s pushed from window

Tonight’s episode (Thursday, May 8) saw Joe Tate pushed from an upper floor window at Home Farm.

Joe is public enemy number 1 at the moment and has upset half the village, so there’s no shortage of suspects.

As his enemies gathered for Lydia’s party, the atmosphere was tense. Billy was eager to get back at Joe for taking his wife, while Charity wanted to drug Joe for what he did to Noah.

Joe’s lies and secrets were soon exposed to all, leaving Kerry furious that Joe is inadvertently responsible for her daughter Amy’s death in the limo crash.

In typical Joe fashion, he attempted to talk himself out of it. However one person got the final word when they pushed Joe out of a window.

Is Ned Porteous leaving Emmerdale?

With Joe having a major target on his back, it’s always seemed like a matter of time before someone silenced him for good. However, so far, there has been no official confirmation of an exit for actor Ned Porteous.

Ned, himself, has not spoken about whether Joe survives the attack. But he did speculate on what would happen if Joe does live to tell the tale.

“I’m sure he will [want payback],” Ned said. “I’m sure there will be some sort of vengeance, it’s not a nice thing to be pushed out of a window.”

Joe returned to Emmerdale in December, but it was never confirmed how long he would be back for. The nature of his character gave the impression of a short life span. But soaps love a redemption arc, so if Joe survives the attack, we could see him going down that route.

Fans spot Joe exit clues

Emmerdale fans previously spotted some clues that this really could be the end of Joe’s time in Emmerdale.

Taking to X, one fan wrote: “If this is Joe’s exit, he is wearing an identical suit to the one he wore in his first episode as Tom Waterhouse in September 2017. The full circle and foreshadowing is crazy.”

Another viewer also pointed out that in Thursday’s episode Kim Tate is wearing a ‘killer’ black dress – as she did at Home Farm when both Frank and Will died. They wrote: “Why isn’t Queen Kim on the suspect list. Especially since the infamous black dress is out again! (Like the one she wore in 1997 and Christmas last year)…”

Are these simply red herrings, or will we be saying goodbye to Joe Tate?
